Honor with Books

“Books are the carriers of civilization.
Books are humanity in print.”

-Barbara Tuchman

Libraries are essential to protect and promote the record of human thought and achievement. To attract and serve outstanding faculty, students and researchers, the MU Libraries must maintain the strong and diverse collections expected of a world-class institution. The Honor with Books Program is an important and enduring way to help build these collections while celebrating important events or perpetuating a loving memory.

How this program works
For as little at $100, you can honor a family member, close friend, favorite teacher, or other person of your choice. Every $100 increment funds the acquisition of one new book selected by a MU Libraries' subject specialist. Names of the honoree and the donor will appear on a bookplate inside the book's front cover and in the computer display of the Libraries' online catalog. If desired, a notification of the gift will be sent to the honoree (or the honoree's family).

Gifts of all denominations make a difference, and both the donor and the Libraries benefit.

A Program with a Future
The Honor with Books Program is a thoughtful and convenient way to celebrate a graduation, reunion, or birthday: to honor a special friend or family member, or to memorialize a loved one. All donors will also receive notifications of upcoming special events and activities in the MU Libraries, such as exhibitions, lectures, and major acquisitions. Most importantly, you will be helping to build and maintain the collections of one of the major academic libraries in the country.
